Partnerships with external research organizations to generate new real-world evidence are critical to addressing the needs that exist in bladder cancer care.
Photocure has established partnerships with different organizations to help generate the long-term real-world data (RWD) needed in cancer treatment across diverse and otherwise underserved sub-groups of patients. While RCTs are the gold standard in the assessment of the safety and efficacy of new therapies, disparities may exist between the outcomes we see from clinical trials and what we actually see in clinical practice. Due to factors including a restricted patient pool defined by comprehensive eligibility criteria, controlled trial settings, as well as set trial durations, RCT outcomes may have gaps that need to be addressed by other means in order to progress therapy options.1,2
Real world outcomes from patient registries
By broadening the patient pool and increasing diversity, RWD can provide realistic long term efficacy and safety data in various healthcare settings, and address concerns such as patient compliance and medical costs. RWD continuously gathered and made available in patient registries allows both the continued monitoring of efficacy and also of rare and delayed adverse events that may present in a broader population.
In an effort to bridge the knowledge gap that exists in bladder cancer care, Photocure has supported and worked closely with several patient registries to benefit from RWD, including:
- US Blue Light Cystoscopy with Cysview Registry : established by Photocure in 2014 and projected to enroll 4,400 patients
- Nordic Flexible BLC Registry: established in 2016 and in five participating sites, with data from 500+ patients with blue light procedures
